Everyone involved, from the Thorns to our punters here at Riveting!, came away from Centennial Stadium feeling dragged by the 2-1 loss to the expansion Denver Summit.
No one got the result, although everyone guessed that Sophia Wilson would score (Ken even got that it would be from the spot, nicking the bonus point!) and Dave had Sonis with a goal for the home side. The “fun story” votes were evenly split, so even there there was no advantage gained.

Some ground rules and explanations/clarifications (the fine print):
Comments must be posted before kickoff, but you can edit or amend an earlier prediction right up to the starting whistle.
Keep your scoreline predictions realistic. No crazy scores just to pad out your odds of getting goals and assists.
The goal/assist bonus is an additional point if you predict the correct scorer and assistant on the same goal, for example, you say Castellanos scores from a Moultrie assist and that is exactly what happens.
Be clear whether you think a goal will be unassisted, assisted, or from a PK/FK. Unassisted = no assist, run of play; Assisted = player who got the assist; PK/FK = dead ball, not in run of play. FK includes olimpicos from corners. No entry means unassisted.
Tomorrow is the season’s first meeting between Gotham FC and the Thorns.
The Bats are on a rising arc. Having started the season dead slow – 5 points of the first 15 on offer, including a brutal 0-2 loss to Denver at home on Matchday 3 – since Matchday 5 Gotham has gone 8-1-1 to sit second on the table (30pts, 9-3-3, 19GF, 10GA). The Joisey Goils are level with leaders Washington on points, and their defense is top of the league. Having Katrin Berger in goal doesn’t hurt with that, either.
If the Bats have a weakness, it’s scoring; Gotham is the only top-five club not to tally 20 or more goals so far. Their big gun is Esther Gonzalez with six. Jayden Shaw and Rose Lavelle have bagged four each, and two others with two apiece.
Gotham is coming in off a wild, thunderous (literally; the match was delayed by electrical storms) comeback win in Seattle that included Seattle’s Dahlien missing a penalty and not one but two second-half injury time goals.
