The Thorns Prediction Game: Reading the PTFC Leaves

John Lawes was our big winner correctly calling the nil-nil draw. The wild bonus went to Daniel Stratton for his tale of a Balcer bite. Personally, I think Shea Groom is more likely to bite somebody, but she wasn’t playing.

The Thorns face the Courage in an elimination match on Friday morning at 9:30. If history holds, we’ll be heading for the airport at noon. But hey, you have to play the game and we did beat them once in an all-the-marbles match.

    How this works:
Add a comment to this post. In the comment title put your predicted result, for example 3-1 Thorns.
In the body of your comment, start with the goals and assists, like so:
    Charley (Klingenberg)
    Sinclair (Free kick)
    Weaver (Unassisted)
    Williams (PK)

Next, name the first yellow card recipient: First yellow to Mewis.
Then reds, if any. (NOTE: no points awarded for correctly calling a red-card-free match, so take a guess.) Dahlkemper commits four yellow-card-worthy fouls before the she collects a second actual card.
Make your fun prediction: All three Thorns goals come in stoppage time and the Courage stagger around the field in a daze providing an apocalyptic backdrop to Sincy’s post-game interview.

    · Correct score: 5 points
    · Correct result (draw/win/loss): 3 points
    · Each clean sheet: 2 points
    · Each goal-scorer: 1 point
    · Each FK/PK/assist/lack of assist: 1 point
    · Goal/assist bonus: 1 point
    · Player with the first yellow card of the match: 1 point
    · Each player with a red card: 1 point (Cannot earn points for predicting 0 red cards)
    · Most recommended/most outrageously accurate prediction: 2 points

Some ground rules and explanations/clarifications (the fine print):
Comments must be posted before kickoff, but you can edit or amend an earlier prediction right up to the starting whistle.
Keep your scoreline predictions realistic. No crazy scores just to pad out your odds of getting goals and assists.
The goal/assist bonus is an additional point if you predict the correct scorer and assistant on the same goal, for example, you say Reynolds scores from a Boureille assist and that is exactly what happens. P.S. if you say exactly that, and it happens, I will hunt you down and buy you a beer!
Be clear whether you think a goal will be unassisted, assisted, or from a PK/FK. Unassisted = no assist, run of play; Assisted = player who got the assist; PK/FK = not in run of play. For the purposes of this thread, Penalty Kick and Free Kick are the same thing. No entry means unassisted.

Have fun, tell your friends, let me know if you have any questions or if I screw up your score.

    1-0 Thorns
    Weaver (Kling)
    First Yellow: Debinha
    Red: Debinha

No one bought the Courage coffee, so they take turns sleeping in their 18.

    Daniel Stratton

    Thorns advance 4-3 via PKs

    Dahlkemper (OG)

    YC Salem
    RC Erceg

After the final whistle both teams, coaches, and staff kneel for the entirety of their post game interviews. During said post game interviews Horan brings out her inner Howard Dean and talks about how they are going to the semi finals, the finals and they are bringing this championship to Portland! Yahhhhhhhhh! Kling photobombs behind.

    Constant Weeder

My prediction is that in spite of a lack of joy in Mudville, the Thorns will make good use of the lessons of the tournament and come back, whatever form the next season takes, prepared to be competitive with NCC.

My wild prediction is that Riley will declare that NCC is the best team on the planet, that he has founded a dynasty that will dominate the sport for years to come, and that he is retiring to take up beekeeping in Sussex.

    Daniel Stratton

Congrats Rob correct first yellow Debinha, correct goal scorer, correct result, and correct score!
